Rotterdam Accommodation Tax is a project in which ICTU guides and collaborates with students of the Rotterdam University of Applies Sciences to realise a working prototype of a solution for handling accommodation tax in a more efficient way using distributed ledger technology. The idea is that hotel organisations or private owners that rent accommodation to people visiting Rotterdam can easily registrate themselves and are provided a free solution with which visitors can (optionally) vote for what the accommodation tax should be spent on. This project will build on Discipl Core using the IOTA platform, and involves the development of a hardware (IOT) component. One could think of voting poles at selected events with which visitors can rate the event using their smartphone during their stay. The free anonymous statistics this generates is used to influence to some extent how tax is allocated to organisations like event funds.
